Established at the beginning of each year by magazine International Living, the Quality of Life Index 2011 has ranked Morocco 69th with a score of 60 points, the same as that obtained by Tunisia and South Africa.
Morocco is the top Arab country in this ranking jointly with Tunisia. It has gained 45 places over 2011.
Surprise has been expressed about this result on the internet (although not to by those who have recently visited or who live in Morocco!) because Morocco rates far above the wealthy Gulf monarchies, the first two ranked of which are Bahrain (89th, 58 points) and Qatar (91st, 57 points).
Other countries in the region are ranked as follows: Kuwait (116th, 54 points), Lebanon (125th, 53 points), Egypt (137th, 52 points), Algeria (139th, 52 points), Oman (140th, 51 points) , UAE, Libya and Syria (143rd, 50 points), Saudi Arabia (159th, 48 points) and Mauritania (168th, 46 points).
The Quality of Life Index of International Living is established according to the following criteria: 15% for cost of living, 15% for the economy, 10% for the environment, 10% for leisure and culture, 10 % for freedom, 10% for infrastructure, 10% for risk and safety and 10% for the climate. |
